Kids Friendly Day Trip From Tokyo

Things to See: Zoorasia, Ramen Museum, Hakkeijima (Aquarium and Amusement park), China Town, Minato Mirai

A fantastic way to enjoy a day with children is to take a trip to Yokohama. It’s the second-largest city in Japan, after Tokyo, and an ideal destination for a family with kids.

Reaching Yokohama is not that difficult as both Tokyo and Yokohama are  served by the JR pass / Japan Rail Pass. If you have not bought this, even then you train ticket should cost around 270 Yen from Shibuya station.
It will take you just about under an hour to reach the Yokohama station.
Places to visit in Yokohama:
  • Zoorasia
    This is one of the biggest and the newest  zoos in Japan and a great place to visit with kids as it will keep them entertained for hours.
    Once you reach Yokohama station, you can catch the direct bus to the zoo which departs every 30 minutes.
    The bus ticket is about ¥440 per adult one way and the zoo entry ticket costs about ¥800 for adults.
    You will find a wide variety of animals who are kept in large enclosures and areas which mimic their natural habitat.
    The gardens are cared for with lush green grass that gives you a great viewing site and resting areas.

 

  • Ramen Museum: If you love both food and history, the Shin Yokohama Ramen Museum is the place for you. Dedicated solely to the popular Japanese dish of Ramen noodles, it features multiple floors showcasing the history of Ramen in Japan, including replica displays of renowned street foods.
    It’s just a short 10 minute walk from the Yokohama station.
  • Hakkeijima (Aquarium and Amusement park)
    The Hakkejima Sea Paradise amusement park is another fantastic option for families. With a diverse array of marine life, including dolphins, stingrays, and sea lions, it’s sure to be a hit with kids.
        Admission to the park, its promenades, restaurants, and shops is free, but there’s a ¥3000 fee to visit          the Aqua resort and view the marine life.
        For an additional hundred yen that is ¥3100 you can get unlimited access to the rides at  pleasure                  land.

 

  • China Town 

Yokohama’s China Town is one of the largest and most vibrant Chinese communities in Japan. Established in the late 19th century, it is a bustling hub of Chinese culture, commerce, and entertainment that attracts visitors from all over the world.

With its colorful streets, delicious cuisine, and lively atmosphere, it is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Chinese culture and history.

The district is filled with traditional Chinese architecture, including red lanterns and archways, that adds to its charm and makes for a beautiful walk. The street vendors and shops offer a variety of goods and souvenirs, including traditional Chinese goods, spices, and textiles.

Additionally, there are numerous restaurants serving a variety of authentic Chinese dishes, making it a popular destination for food lovers.

 

  • Minato Mirai : Minato Mirai, situated on the waterfront of Yokohama, Japan, is renowned for its progressive and inventive architecture, as well as its cultural attractions and green spaces. As a bustling hub of commerce, entertainment, and tourism, it provides a plethora of dining, shopping, and leisure possibilities. The district is host to various landmarks that have become cultural icons, such as the Landmark Tower, Japan’s tallest building, and Cosmo World amusement park. Minato Mirai is easily accessible by train and is a favored location for both tourists and locals seeking a glimpse of Japan’s forward-thinking modernity.
