Fun Facts About Japan & Must Experience Things

Facts about Japan

Welcome to my travel blog! If you’re planning a trip to Japan or just interested in learning more about this fascinating country, you’ve come to the right place.

Japan is a land of contrasts, where ancient traditions meet modern technology and innovation. But did you know that there’s so much more to discover beyond the well-known sushi, anime, and samurai? In this blog, I’ll be sharing some interesting fun facts about Japan that you might not have heard before. So buckle up, and let’s take a journey through this amazing country!

Did you know Japan is the oldest country in the world due to its existence since the 4th century (something that I was told by my 6 year old son).

Cool & Fun facts about Japan

    • Vending Machines: Japan has the highest density of vending machines in the world. There is 1 vending machine for every 23 people. The reason you must experience them is that they sell everything from water, cold drinks, lollies & chips (which is pretty standard in the rest of the world) to cold & hot food, hot beverages, pop-corns, games & goodies/toys for kids. You will be amazed at the variety of things you can get from these machines.

  • Trains: Did you know Japanese trains (almost) never run late. In fact, in 2019 a train was late by 8 seconds and the train operator released a public apology for that.
  • Population & Immigration: The country is very big on tradition & culture. This is one of the reasons why there is almost no migrant population in Japan. In fact, over 97% people who live in Japan are native Japanese.
  • Emojis which are so popular these days and part of every message or social interaction were invented in Japan.
  • Ramen / Noodle Bath: You read it right, there are actual spa which offer noodle bath as the Japanese think that it is very good for their body and skin as it contains a lot of nutrients (another fact by my son).

Must See Things In Japan

  • Ride a Shinkasen or Bullet Train
  • Visit a restaurant served by robots – Robo Restuarant
  • Watch a Sumo wrestling match (Bookings essential and only specific dates)
    • Official sumo tournaments (called “basho”) are held three times a year in Tokyo — in January, May, and September — at Ryōguku Kokugikan, the national sumo stadium. Each tournament is held over 15 days, so there’s a total of 45 days of top-class sumo in Tokyo each year.
  • Toilet seats: Yes you read it right. Japanese people take this activity very seriously. That’s why when you visit a toilet you will see a lot of buttons on the toilet seat with options to warm up your seat, wash your bottom, dry it with cool and warm air and listen to music. There is also an option to make some dummy noise so others can’t hear any natural sounds in case your tummy is rumbling

An IT engineer by profession and based in Melbourne, Australia, I love to travel. Married with 2 kids my travel is mostly with family and this blog is to encourge families who might be hesitant or slightly scared to travel with kids. Travelling with kids is great fun but can be overwhelming if not planned in a proper manner. I have re-discovered the love for writing and sharing my experiences which resulted in this blog.
